Character Spotlight
The Man with Two (Three) First Names
Name : Jack (William) Henry
Assisted by his augmented pet parrot, Jim, Jack serves the Radia space station in many functions, including but not limited to: repairman, tech support, mechanic, inventor, teacher, and drill sergeant.
With limp mud-colored hair, a somewhat lax care for his appearance, and a body that could charitably be said to be built like a scarecrow, Jack isn't much to look at. Underneath his ragged look, however, lies the mind of a genius mad scientist. Easily bored and with a passion for invention Jack is one of the foremost minds in the fields of robotics and spacial manipulation, and he also messes around a bit with weapons technology and projection effects. He has dabbled in biotechnology as well, though he has had rather limited success in that area, though one experiment preformed on himself had the unintended side effect of speeding up his metabolism as a side effect, causing him to eat enormous amounts of food from then on to keep up.
Jack has crafted several inventions that make life easier, from the magna-boards that many Radians use to traverse their space station, to quad-arm exoskeleton that is used to aid emergency workers and construction crews back on Earth. One invention he holds dear is the light knife, a small carving knife with a ten minute battery life that projects a laser blade capable of cutting through most foods with ease, something he crafted for his mother. Some militaries have adopted this table knife as a backup weapon due to its ability to slice through flesh as easily as a ham dinner, a face that has also seen it used as a scalpel in hospitals.
Jack's crowning achievement is arguably his fighter, the Backflash. Equipped with an experimental 'Tear Drive', the Backflash is capable of utilizing slipspace to vanish from reality for a moment before reappearing several yards behind its previous location. Though somewhat limited in utility, this ability can and has been utilized to dodge incoming fire, to reappear behind a fighter tailing his own, and on one particularly daring occasion as a way to bypass walls.
Jack is not comfortable with ground combat, though he is somewhat capable. His main advantage in this area is his uncanny durability, and an odd ability to heal much faster than normal. This is presumed to be due to an experiment in biotechnology, though if this outcome was intended or not is unknown.
Jack has not yet been imported to anything else, but may appear as an influence if a mad scientist is required in another work.
