General Information on Verden
Verden is a wasteland planet, its three main continents showing very little natural plantlife. The 'oceans' of the planet are made of a fine shifting sand, nearly impossible to walk through and home to creatures called sandbeasts.
Water is quite scarce, as there is no ocean and no rainfall. Water is pumped up from underground at hydrofarms located throughout the world. Besides water, these farms also grow crops and raise livestock using their pumped resource. Due to this, hydrofarms are the lifesource of the planet. Wood is a rarity, and wood decor is often seen as a sign of opulence and wealth.
Unlike water, metal is an abundant resource on Verden. However, most of this metal is iron. Other metals are worth more, and there are a few stories of mining barons who struck it rich with a lucky pocket of precious metals. These lucky individuals are few and far between, however, and the latest one died coming back from his mine located on an island somewhere in the sea of sand. Even so, smiths who work with iron and steel often do well for themselves, whether through making weapons and armor or making parts for vehicles.
There are two things that Verden has in the greatest of abundance. The first is sand. The second is sun. As such, a few larger cities power themselves fairly decently with solar panel farms, the most notable of these being the city of Belmont on the western continent. One or two solar energy farms do exist and sell their power to nearby cities, but the lack of abundance of copper for power cables and usual lack of heavy energy usage don't put such energy plants in very high demand.
Oil is rather plentiful on Verden, at least in some places. A couple of towns are built near oil fields, as well as the great city of Citadel in the far north. Gas is usually cheaper in these areas, so drifters passing through might do well to stock up when they have the chance.
There aren't a whole lot of people around on Verden, with even the largest city, Citadel, only having a few thousand residents to its name. Due to this, those who live in smaller towns will usually react fairly strongly to drifters coming to roost, usually with curiosity, but sometimes with suspicion or fear as well.
The Drifter Code
Even drifters who don't truly belong to any one town have some customs that they all share. While the code is not a set of laws by any means, any drifters who ignore it may be seen by others as being rude and may receive similar treatment in return later. A few drifters who are...farther removed...from society may take non-adherence to the code as a severe insult and may try to harm those they see as having insulted them.
1 : Any time two drifters or drifter groups meet on the road, they must trade with one another.
2 : Drifters who come across another drifter in danger must try to help if able.
3 : Drifters passing near towns should stop for the night to hear and spread news, especially with other drifters.
4 : Drifters will not harm other drifters unless wronged or for a reward.
5 : Drifters will allow other drifters they fight a fair chance to defend themselves.
Money
The currency of Verden is the Zen. Verden doesn't have digital banking, so you need to carry your money with you. There is no paper currency, either, zen existing entirely as coins. The coins are nickel-plated iron, and none are round. They come in varying sizes with varying numbers of sides, the size and number of edges determining the coin's value. A three-sided coin is worth the least for its size, while an eight sided coin has the most value. The smallest sided coins are embossed with a simple Z on one side, the middle sized coins with a V, and the largest coins with a stylized sun. Each coin is embossed with a picture of the planet on the back to discourage forgeries, though creating a forged coin would likely be more expensive than the coin is worth. The middle coins are worth five times the value of the small coins, and the large coins are worth ten times the small ones.

Cities of Verden
(Cities will be grouped by continent)
North Continent
Citadel
The second northernmost settlement on Verden, and the planet's industrial capitol. It is built atop an iron-rich plateau, which provides the material for its forges.
Where some other towns and smaller cities may have buildings built from stone, Citadel is a city made entirely of metal. Mining is a common profession, though the mineshaft in the plateau is owned in its entirety by Flint Co.
Also aiding its industry is its proximity and trade relationship with the northernmost settlement in the world, Oljebron the oil town. Trading metal for oil helps both settlements prosper, and causes prices for metal and oil goods in both places to be among the lowest on the planet.
Citadel also has a strongly enforced system of laws and a quick to respond police force. Lawbreakers are cracked down on hard in Citadel, and any drifters staying there would be wise to keep themselves in line lest they find themselves with a jail sentence.
Oljebron
The northernmost settlement of the world. Oljebron is an oil pumping town located on the edge of the northern continent along the coast of the sandy sea.
Due to its proximity to Citadel and the fact that each has an abundance of an important resource the other can use, the two settlements have strong trade relations. As such, prices in Oljebron are rather low just like in Citadel, but not quite as low due to the town not having the same production capacity as the industrial capitol.
Oljebron doesn't have many refined oil products besides gas due to them relying on Citadel for processing of goods. The town is rather small, and there are only two metal smiths in the town, both of whom specialize in vehicle parts. Due to this and Oljebron's metal imports, the town sells the cheapest sandcrafts in the world.
Despite being an important city to the great Citadel, Oljebron only has a little over one hundred residents, many visitors scared of its proximity to a known sandbeast territory.
The law in Oljebron isn't as stringently kept as it is in Citadel, and the local sheriff is usually willing to give residents and repeat visitors the benefit of the doubt, figuring if anything serious really does happen someone will report it to him. Of course, when he does receive a report he and his deputies head out in force, backing their authority up with a rather nice gun they got from their city's trade partners down in the southeast.
Central Continent
Tombstone
Tombstone is a city on the central continent. It is located near the center of the continent, just a few miles south of the Viktigste Mountains. Tombstone is located at the meeting point of the two continental railroads. Many of the buildings in tombstone are made of stone or cement.
Due to its location as the meeting point of the north-south railroad and the east-west railroad Tombstone is the trading hub of the central continent. As such there are constantly new faces passing through town, and it is a roost for many drifters looking to rest for a while. Shops and shipping are the two big businesses in the city, and the train station is always busy with goods being loaded and offloaded as well as with passenger trains.
Tombstone's role as a trading hub results in the city often selling uncommon goods. Of course, the prices aren't the cheapest and stock is limited, but when the alternative is heading to far off towns the price just makes up for the convenience.
Tombstone is a fairly large city, but it has a rather low number of permanent residents for its size. This is due to a large portion of the city's workforce only sticking around for a few months before heading out on of of the trains, then quickly being replaced by new arrivals. If a passing drifter accepts a job from someone in Tombstone, they may want to complete it quickly or their patron may have already moved on by the time they return.
The law is a bit relaxed in tombstone, but stealing is regarded as a much greater crime there than it usually is elsewhere. Crime is often met with incarceration for a few days or more depending on the crime, and reparations to the wronged party. The only crime that is usually met with capital punishment in the city is murder.
Banner
A city on the western end of the southern continent, at the end of the east-west continental railroad. Banner has a sandcraft dock and like Tombstone is a shipping town. It deals mostly in sea shipping between continents and is the source of Tombstone's goods. It's mayor is corrupt, and is in the pocket of a drifter gang.
South Continent
Hive
Hive is a city on the southern continent, so named due to it being seen as a home of scumbags, outlaws, and murderers. Indeed, the city is essentially run by a number of gangs with no real form of government besides that.
The weapon trade is a strong business in Hive, and it's generally safe to assume that everyone living there is armed, even if you can't see a weapon on them. There are a number of weapon smiths in the city, though one stands out above the rest. Of course, he never takes sides in any of the gang conflicts that tear through town every now and then. There's just more business in staying neutral for a smith.
The city has a number of popular trades which are less common elsewhere. Gambling, prostitution, drugs, and the like are not illegal there. Of course, in Hive nothing truly is illegal as there is essentially no law presence at all. The city's citizens police themselves mostly, the knowledge that everyone else is also armed and fear of crossing the wrong people acting as deterrents. Of course, crime still occurs quite often in Hive, but those criminals who get caught by those they've wronged never get the chance to see a jail cell.
